What is Brain Mapping Treatment?

Quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), also referred to as brain mapping, is a kind of brain mapping treatment in which brain waves—a form of electrical activity—are measured. The oscillatory and rhythmic activity of a single brain cell or of several brain cells interacting and cooperating is represented by brain waves. Brain cells produce electricity when they function. The scalp can be used to quantify the power that travels from various brain regions.

The brain's waveforms, or brainwaves, are a representation of the repetitive and rhythmic neuronal activity in the central nervous system. When a significant number of brain cells come together to form brainwave activity, this can be seen on an electroencephalogram (EEG) and further examined using a technique known as neurometrics.

How does Brain Mapping Work?

Contrary to what most people believe, data collection for mind mapping therapy is non-invasive, painless, and extremely easy. A snugly fitting hat with 19 electrodes on the inside is placed on the client's head. To monitor electrical activity on the surface of the skull, these electrodes are filled with electro-gel.

Clients will sit for ten minutes with their eyes open and ten minutes with their eyes closed during data collecting. Neurological norms determine these time allotments. Clients are asked to minimize eye blinks and remain still while being measured. After the data is processed, you and your clinician will plan a follow-up session to go over a comprehensive report.

Benefits of Brain Mapping

Our diagnostic tool serves individuals grappling with brain-related conditions, providing invaluable insights into brain health optimization. By delving into brain functioning, we identify dysregulation sources, empowering us to tailor interventions for enhanced well-being. Our technology detects nuanced changes in brain-wave patterns, pinpointing areas of underactivity with sluggish brain waves or overstimulation with excessive fast brain waves. These insights allow us to address disruptions, fostering improved brain function and overall cognitive health.

Our platform facilitates the assessment of brain network functionality, crucial for regulating mood, behavior, attention, sleep, and learning processes. By analyzing brain waves, we pinpoint opportunities to optimize communication among various brain regions. Utilizing visual representations of individual brain lobes and specific brain wave patterns (beta, alpha, theta, and delta), we extract valuable insights into cortical arousal, motor functions, memory encoding and retrieval, and deep sleep mechanisms. These insights inform the development of personalized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) protocols, known as PrTMS, where our understanding of brain activity guides therapeutic interventions for improved outcomes.

How does brain mapping work?
  • Brain mapping is a non-invasive and painless process that involves placing sensors on the surface of your head to record underlying brain waves. Similar to a thermometer that measures temperature without affecting it, brain mapping records your brain's electrical activity for analysis without causing any disturbance. This helps us identify dysregulated brain areas that require attention and determine if your brain activity falls within the normal range or displays dysregulation.

How is a brain map used in treatment?

A brain map serves as a unique fingerprint of your brain, allowing us to personalize treatment based on the specific dysregulation linked to your symptoms. For instance, if your attention network shows abnormalities causing problems with concentration on uninteresting tasks, we target treatment to address the disrupted connections in that network. We may also focus on improving connections between the attentional network and other networks crucial for optimal brain functioning and concentration.

How does brain map-guided treatment improve quality of life?

Brain map-guided treatment enables you to strengthen connections within and between brain regions, enhancing the efficiency and speed of information processing. This improvement can lead to better emotional regulation, increased motivation, and improved sleep quality. Unlike medications that may not target specific brain areas, our guided brain mapping approach helps address neurological issues more effectively, resulting in a harmonious brain function and an enhanced quality of life. At Karma TMS, we use scientific evidence to develop individualized treatment protocols based on your brain map, helping you achieve a better life experience by addressing neurological challenges and promoting self-regulation.
